• Estimates
  • Why won’t the shop give me an estimate over the phone or from an email with a picture?
    • Although we can give you a price for a paint package, we absolutely must see your vehicle in person in order to provide you with an estimate. It is very common for vehicles to require additional prep to ensure you receive the smoothest finish possible. Peeling, delaminating clear coat, and cracks in your old finish require extra preparation. These conditions can’t be seen in photos. We do not give estimates over the phone or by e-mail. Some insurance companies use a photo estimating system, but those initial estimates are rarely accurate and supplemental claims are generally expected. We like you to have an accurate price up front that will not change during the course of repairs.
  • Do I have to pay for an estimate?
    • Estimates are 100% free of charge and obligation.
  • Do I have to make an appointment for an estimate?
    • Appointments are usually not necessary, but we do schedule appointments for your convenience.
  • How much will it cost to paint my car?
    • You can get your car painted for as little as $597!  All of our paint jobs include varying degrees of prep work & quality of materials applied.  However, extra preparation may be required in order to provide you with a smooth finish and in order to warranty your new paint job.  See what’s included in our prices.
  • Why is my estimate more than the advertised paint package?
    • The finishes on many vehicles have deteriorated to the point where they cannot simply be painted over. Our packages include standard prep to remove most of the larger nicks and scratches and hand sanding to provide a mechanical bond for the new finish, but do not include a provision for repairing cracks, peeling or cracking paint, and delaminating clear coat. In order for your new paint job to look its best, these issues must be addressed before refinishing can occur.
  • Are there hidden and extra charges?
    • Hidden?  NO!  We subscribe to a policy of “completely honest presentation.”  That means we tell it like it is!  Does that mean I can get my car painted for $597? Yes, hoeever there is no one size fits all option for achieving a quality finish.  If correcting pre-existing paint conditions like peeling, cracking, and clear coat delamination is necessary in order for us to refinish the vehicle in a manner which we can warranty the work, then those services will be included on the estimate. Body work is also priced by estimate. However if you choose not to have those services performed, we can still paint your vehicle, we just won’t be able to warranty it.   • Do you do collision repair?
    • Yes and No.  We are not a collision repair facility. If we incorporated all of the expensive equipment, skills & experience associated with frame straightening, measuring, working with modern alloys and other specialty processes, etc. we would be forced to pass those costs along. We fix dents, dings, etc. and replace panels such as fenders, bumpers, hoods, doors, lights, moldings etc.  As a general rule, if the car is drivable and free of structural or mechanical damage, we can fix it! In these cases we can also work with your insurance company. Please keep in mind that while some damage may appear cosmetic, very minor structural damage can prevent panels from being aligned properly. We will assess damages at the time of the estimate and will refer you to a nearby collision center if we feel there may be structural or mechanical damge.

• Pricing
  • How do you paint cars so inexpensively?
    • There are many reasons!  Let’s look at a few of the top reasons:
      1.  Buying power.  High volume and relationships with vendors spanning decades allow us to buy materials at deeply discounted prices.  In turn, we pass that savings on to you.
      2. Our process.  We have to give credit to Earl Scheib for being the first person to envision the revolutionary process of production auto painting.  You’ve heard the old adage “don’t reinvent the wheel.”  Well, we didn’t reinvent the wheel, we’ve just streamlined it!  Our proprietary “production” operating processes allow us to paint vehicles and have them back to the customer in as little as 2-3 days days!  We paint up to 8 cars per day, per location.  We operate at higher quantities with lower per-car profit margins. Our process is similar to that which Henry Ford first used in the production of the Model T in the early 1900′s.  Your vehicle will move through the shop, from station to station.  In each station, we have a trained technician devoted to one step of the process.  The typical vehicle will have optional bodywork performed, move to the sanding bay, then to the masking bay before making its way through the paint booth.  After your vehicle is painted, our detailers remove masking tape and paper, reinstall emblems, wipers, etc. then wipe everything down.
      3. Volume. Lower cost = higher demand. The more cars we paint, the lower our cost per car is. By painting the maximum number of cars we do not have to rely on a per-vehicle profit metric and sainted look at the overall cost. Shops that produce lower volume can not come close to our prices.
  • Why does a Supreme cost $200 more than a Polyglo paint job?
    • We remove the majority of the nicks and scratches. We use a higher quality poluyurethane primer-sealer that requires a catalyst. We use a higher quality, full polyurethane paint that is much more resistant to wear and fading. We also include a Unified Clear Coat in this package, which enhances both the gloss and durability of the final finish.
  • Will the price I pay be the same as the estimate? No surprises?
    • The only time the price you would pay would be higher than your initial estimate is when additional hidden damage is discovered during the repair process. This is extremely uncommon in our line of work, however. When it does occur, we always call you to explain the situation, offer you the opportunity to come in and see the repair area first hand and to discuss additional cost involved in the repair. We will never increase your cost without a thorough explanation, providing you with options and then obtaining your approval.

  • What is a polyurethane hardener?
    • Hardener is a chemical additive that causes the molecules in the paint to cross-link, resulting in a very hard, chemically resistant, scratch resistant finish that requires less maintenance. The paint molecules essentially bond to become one big molecule, making them much more difficult to separate. This is what makes the finish so much more resistant to scratching, fading, cracking, etc.
  • What is a primer sealer?
    • Primer sealer is sprayed on the entire surface before the paint is applied. The purpose is to create a uniform surface for your new paint to adhere to. It creates a slicker, more uniform looking paint job and minimizes the possibility of any bleed-through or shrinkage during the curing process.
  • What is catalyzed primer sealer?
    • Just as with adding a hardener to paint to cross link the molecules, the same can be applied to primer/sealer. You would not think that what is under your new paint job is just as important as the paint itself, but it is! A catalyzed primer sealer creates a much more durable, chemical resistant, scratch and nick resistant finish. The primer/sealer is the foundation of your paint. Much like a home, a paint job built on a solid foundation is going to be more durable and last longer. Chemical exposure tests show that a paint job laid on top of a catalyzed primers FAR less susceptible to lifting or failure of any type.
  • Will you sand my vehicle before painting it?
    • Absolutely! We sand every surface that will receive paint. Sanding allows for a mechanical bond between the old surface and the new. Without proper sanding, paint will be much more likely to chip and peel. We machine sand problem areas according to the package purchased and then hand sand the remaining portions of your vehicle to achieve mechanical adhesion. Please understand that for the low cost and fast turnaround that we offer, none of our services will be perfect. We do not do show cars, OE certified repairs, restorations or custom work. Keeping it simple is the key to our success.
  • What is the difference between single stage and base coat/clear coat?
    • Base coat/clear coat finishes are what car manufacturers use when building new vehicles. Base coat/Clear coat is also known as a two-stage finish. This means that after your vehicle is prepped, a coat of primer sealer is applied, and then 2-3 coats of basecoat are applied to achieve color coverage. Base coat is made up of two components: pigments that make up the color you choose and a vehicle(solvent) that allows the pigments to flow freely through the paint gun to your vehicle. Once the base coat is applied, the vehicle (known as reducer) evaporates leaving behind only the pigments that make up the color you chose. Once that has dried, two coats of clear coat are applied over the base coat. The clearcoat contains no pigments, only resins, the vehicle(reducer) and the catalyst that binds it all together. The clear coat is what provides all of the shine and gloss, chemical resistance, UV resistance and longevity of the paint job. Base coat/clear coat finishes are the most durable and maintenance free of all finishes. They are also the most expensive. Because of their nature, they also do not cover imperfections as well and therefor we often do not recommend them for older vehicles that are in rough condition. Sometimes a single stage finish is a better fit and we will make that recommendation honestly based on what we think suits your needs the best. We NERVER just try to sell you the most expensive option.
      Single stage finishes (Polyglo & Supreme) utilize technology that allows the pigment and protective resin to be applied in one single step. There are different qualities of resins, like synthetic enamel, acrylic and urethane, which is why we offer different grades of single stage paint jobs. We apply the primer sealer coat, then 2-3 coats of paint to achieve both color coverage and gloss in one application. A unified clear coat, which is mixed in to the final coat of paint, is included in the Supreme package. There is no clear coat included with the Polyglo, but it still has a nice shine. It lacks the UV resistance properties of the other two urethane options and is more prone to fading if not meticulously maintained.
  • What is an integrated clear coat?
    • An integrated clear is somewhat of a hybrid between a single stage finish and a base/coat clear coat. The clear is added to the last coat of any single stage finish, hence the name integrated. This clear coat offers the most bang for your buck in that you receive a shinier, more durable finish than if we simply used paint alone. Oftentimes our integrated clear coat paint jobs are mistaken for base coat/clear coat jobs because they look that good!
  • How many coats of paint do you put on my car?
    • Every material we apply is done so according to the manufacturers specifications. Contrary to popular belief, more coats does not necessarily equate to a better finish and can actually lead to failure of the finish. Color coverage is generally achieved in two coats, but some colors require more. In the case of basecoat/clearcoat we apply basecoat for the sole purpose of color coverage and then clearcoat to achieve the gloss and durability. This process doubles the amount of coats applied, which is where most of the additional cost comes from. Most single stage paints are applied in two coats, but others may require more. Some metallics and pearls require what is often referred to as a drop coat to even out the flakes and prevent splotching that is often associated with single stage metallic colors. This can be a tricky process, but our technicians have had lots of practice and training.
  • How long with the paint last?
    • That’s kind of like asking “how long will my engine last?” Paint is a wearable part that requires maintenance. How long your paint will last is totally subject to the way in which you care for your vehicle, the conditions in which it is driven and stored, environmental factors and more. Each service guarantee is based on the assumption of no maintenance, however, you can significantly increase the life of your paint job by keeping it hand washed and waxed & avoiding harsh mechanical car washes. If we had a way to guarantee maintenance we could double or even triple the current warranties. It’s not uncommon for a customer to stop by to show us how great their Polyglo looks after 10 years! We have so much confidence in our Supreme and Extreme paint jobs that we guarantee that even if you do not wash or wax your vehicle during the duration of the warranty and it fades, we will repaint it for free!
  • What if I don’t want to pay for the extra prep or labor to take out the cracking, peeling and dents, won’t my car still look better with new paint?
    • You may choose to simply have your vehicle painted without addressing issues like peeling, cracking, rust, dents, dings, old bodywork, etc. Keep in mind that in order to receive the smoothest possible finish and highest possible gloss, these issues will need to be addressed. If the conditions are bad enough, it can and will affect the gloss and overall appearance of the newly painted surfaces. If you choose to paint over some conditions that your estimator has advised you to repair, you will not receive a warranty. If you choose to paint over existing dents and dings, you will still receive a paint warranty. You will simply have shiny dents!
  • Why does it cost so much to repair a small ding?
    • We get asked this question more than almost any other question! Repairing a dent or ding is a very involved process. There is a minimum amount of time it takes to repair one dent. A body repair technician must first grind all of the paint off of the area to be repaired, then he will pull and/or hammer and dolly the metal as straight as possible. Then he must mix filler with a catalyst, then apply it uniformly, then wait for it to dry, then sand it, then either glaze it or apply a second coat of filler, then wait for that to dry, sand it again, mix and apply primer, wait for that to dry, then sand it. Only then is the job finished and ready for paint! The time involved in repairing multiple dings sometimes is not much more than it would be to fix one single ding since many of the time consuming processes only need to be performed once regardless of how many dings are being repaired. We start body repairs at a 1 hour minimum, however as the amount of damage being repaired increases, the number of hours we charge decreases. As general rule of thumb, if you can cover the damage with a closed, flat handthe 1 hour minimum will cover it as well. This metric applies up to about 5 hands and then drops to 2 hands per hour, etc. For example, a dent the size of a soccer ball will typically require 4-5 labor hours to repair.

• General Questions
  • Will my car look like new after a Sprayglo® paint job?
    • NO! It will look like your car with a new paint job! Although a new paint job goes a long way towards making your vehicle look great, nothing we can do will make your car new again. Since it is not our area of expertise, we do not offer restoration services. If you want your car to look brand new, we can refer you to some local shops that specialize more in restoration and show quality work.
  • What does the Sprayglo® warranty cover?
    • Please take a few moments to read the Sprayglo® warranty in its entirety here.
  • Can you paint the moldings too?
    • Absolutely! We do not charge any additional fees to paint moldings and trim the same color as your new paint job. We do charge extra to paint them another color. We do not offer any warranties on plastic, rubber, fiberglass or flexible parts.
  • Should I wash my car before I bring it in for painting?
    • It is not necessary, but we welcome you to! The cleaner your vehicle is, the easier it is to prep for paint. Please avoid using any polishes, waxes or silicone based products such as tire dressing before bringing your car in for paint. Silicone & oil based products will have to be thoroughly removed as they are NOT compatible with automotive finishes.
  • Is body repair included?
    • NO!  Body repair is a laborious process requiring specialized skills, tools and materials.  For this reason, we employ skilled, trained technicians that have dedicated their careers to the art of reversing damage to vehicle bodies.  They do great work and are compensated for doing so! The only way for you to know exactly what this will cost is to come by and let us take a look at it.  We offer free estimates, any time during business hours, with or without an appointment.
  • How long does it take to paint my car?
    • Most of the vehicles we paint are ready within a week.  You can add a day or two if you have a significant amount of bodywork, need replacement parts, or if your vehicle requires extra preparation to repair existing paint damage.  It is also possilble for customers to drop their car off early one day and have it back by the end of the next business day! It just depends on the services being performed and the work load of the shop at any given time. It is also not uncommon to have over one week turn around when tax returns go out and our shops fill up with people eager to get that paint job they’ve been putting off! In these instances, we still accept walk-ins, but prioritize appointments for those who wish to minimize down time by planning ahead.
  • How much does it cost to change the color of my car?
    • If you simply want to change the color of the exterior, you will pay $100 in addition to the paint package. At this time we have discontinued offering services for painting door jambs, under hoods, trunks, etc. With recent rising costs, we have made the decision to do this in an effort to prioritize work that keeps production moving and costs down. Over 99% of our customers do not elect to have door jambs painted, so there is very low demand for this service making it more costly than we are comfortable charging.
  • What does exterior only mean?
    • Exterior only refers to the painted surfaces of your car that you can see by walking around the outside of your car with all doors, hood, trunk, hatch etc. closed. Exterior does not include doorjambs, under the hood, under the trunk or the inside of pickup beds.
  • What does single original color mean?
    • We paint your car back to the original color using the color code provided by the manufacturer.  It also means, if you want more than one color on your vehicle that we have to charge a more for that as the vehicle must be prepped, masked painted and dried for each color being applied.  Two-tone means two trips through the production line.  Additional color service starts at $350 and is priced by the estimate.
